MS Office 365 Case Study: Sealco

Sealco were planning a significant investment in their I.T infrastructure in order to move away from their Windows Server 2003 environment to modern server hardware running current Windows operating systems.

This would allow them to utilise all the benefits of server virtualisation and a modern Remote Desktop Services environment, which makes up a key part of their I.T. requirement.

Additionally, after consulting with IMEX, Sealco agreed that improving the functionality, scalability and availability of their messaging services was critical and therefore moving these services to the cloud was another key goal in this project.

To address these challenges, IMEX implemented 2 HP Proliant servers; one would act as a virtualisation host, and the other as a secondary virtualisation host and backup server. Both servers would run Windows Server 2012, therefore utilising the brand new Hyper-V 3 platform and Server 2012s latest Remote Desktop Services environment.

Email services were migrated to Microsoft’s Office365 cloud email service as not only does it offer all of the messaging and collaboration functionality that Sealco required, but the new migration and synchronisation tools allowed email data, settings and configuration to be migrated to the cloud seamlessly, with no perceived down time for Sealco’s staff.

In addition, Office 365 was able to integrate fully into existing line of business applications that Sealco run.

The new server infrastructure has provided comprehensive benefits to Sealco, including increased performance and reliability across all applications.

Utilising virtualisation allows flexible deployment of current and future I.T services and has enhanced recoverability of I.T services.

The move to a cloud based email service in the form of Office 365 has allowed Sealco’s staff to access messaging and collaboration tools on a multitude of devices from anywhere in the world.
